Georgian Manor House
Brief
Because of the Grade II listed status of this beautiful house, this project was always going to be about more than interiors. My brief was to work with the client to manage, not just the design, but also the renovation. It has been a staged renovation, as the family wanted to remain in residence, which obviously causes logistical issues.
My client wanted a contemporary interior that worked with the historic nature of the building to provide a modern family home, with muted colours and calm interiors to bring some balance to their very busy lives
Hurdles
The main hurdle was the listed status of the house and having to work with a not always pragmatic planning and conservation department.
The cellar was very damp and we had to find solutions for it’s conversion to the games and cinema room, without resorting to the considerable expense of tanking.
Reviewing the use of the rooms on the ground floor to reflect modern living, such as the existing dining room becoming a home office and the main dining area moving to the kitchen.
